NY Red Bulls vs. NE Revolution: Preview and How to Watch
Red Bulls Look to Rebound at Home Against Revolution
Two weeks ago New York Red Bulls, coming off a loss, travelled to Philadelphia to play what was then the worst team in MLS’ Eastern Conference. It’s been a tale of two cities since then. Philadelphia’s Union, victors that night, have been unstoppable since. NYRB have remained winless. Red Bulls return to their home arena this Saturday night hoping to finally turn the herd in the right direction. New England’s Revolution, however, riding a 2 game win streak, are standing in their way.
NY Red Bulls (H)
- Current Record (W-L-D): 5-6-2
- Last Time Out: 1-1 draw at home to Toronto FC. New York relied on some great goalkeeping and a big dollop of luck down the stretch to salvage the tie.
- Player to Watch For: Ask most people who is the player to watch for in New York and they are likely to reply, “David Villa”. That’s funny, but not entirely accurate. First, wrong club. Second, Red Bulls have their own top gun in the person of Bradley Wright-Phillips. @THEREALBWP is scoring at just a shade under a 1 goal per game clip. He’s on schedule for his third straight 30+ scoring season in a row. He scored the club’s lone goal last week basically while he was falling over.
- Why They Win: Red Bulls concede a lot of goals and so they have to score even more to win.
- Why They Won’t: On defense Red Bulls are still without Tyler Adams. Adams is currently with Tab Ramos’ US men’s team at FIFA’s U-20’s World Cup Finals ongoing in the Republic of Korea. Adams’ absence has only made it easier for opponents to add to NYRB’s -6 goal differential. The only other team with a negative GD in the Eastern Conference is DC United, currently in last place.
- Predicted Starting XI:
NE Revolution
- Current Record (W-L-D): 4-4-2
- Last Time Out: Revs have 2 wins and one loss thus far this month. Last Sunday night they completed a home and home split for May with Columbus, defeating Crew SC, 2-1 at Gillette Stadium.
- Player to Watch For: Watching the Revolution and not keeping your eye on Diego Fagundez would probably be a waste of the cost of a ticket. The 22-year-old is the poster boy for the team and for (literally) homegrown MLS talent. He scored both goals last week and told the press afterwards that he feels like he’s only getting started in 2017. New England are also looking forward to the return of Juan Agudelo. The high-scoring forward has been sidelined for the past 2 games. His return this week is a possibility.
- Why They Win: New England have a very balanced offensive attack. If they score first and put New York in an early hole, it will be very tough for the Red Bulls to come back.
- Why They Might Not: Both Revs and Red Bulls have played much better at home in 2017. Guess whose house Red Bull Arena is?
