Toronto FC takes their sixth straight victory in hard caught injury plagued won against Minnesota United

The streak continues. Toronto FC have now pushed their win streak to six games after their hard fought 3-2 win over Minnesota. But it came at a cost with Sebastian Giovinco and Nick Hagglund both leaving the game with injuries. According to Vanney Giovinco’s injury substitution was precautionary, but Hagglund looks a little worse as Alex Bono collided with the defenders knee.

Yes, Toronto wound up winning the game, but it was an undeserving win. Sloppy in possession for most of the night and sloppy defensively. Sometimes they say you’ve got to be lucky to be good and good to be lucky, so Toronto will be counting their lucky stars they weren’t the next victims of Minnesota United. A beastly play by Jozy Altidore was the difference between the two sides.

Player that stood out

Chris Mavinga. His first game was horrible, but he’s followed that up with two good games and solid defence. He was the best player on the pitch and helped cause the own goal by Christian Ramirez for the second goal of the game for TFC. He’s been a rock at the back end the last two games and looks like he is finally adjusting to the pace of the MLS and will be a key contributor going forward for Toronto FC.

Toronto won because they didn’t quit. They gave up the game tying goal after Nick Hagglund went down with the injury and on a penalty shot that came on the heels of a Raheem Edwards hand ball. They replied, however, after the insertion of Victor Vazquez into the lineup. Jozy Altidore picked up the ball and took control breaking through the defence like a beast and crossing a beautiful ball to Tosaint Ricketts who now has 3 goals in two games.

Toronto FC takes on the New York Red Bulls next Friday as they look for their seventh straight victory.
