Toronto FC wins their third straight game at home with their 2-1 win over Orlando City SC.

Long gone are the days of Toronto FC drawing or losing games. Over the past three matches Toronto has outscored their opponents 7-2 and have got contributions from their star players. Last weekend it was Jozy Altidore with the brace, this weekend it was Sebastian Giovinco to give Toronto the 2-1 victory.

Things are starting to look up for the Reds who beat the hottest team in the MLS and now sit third in the Eastern Conference with 16 points on the season. The game may have been saved on a goal-line clearance by Alex Bono, or this could have been a different result.

Toronto will now head out on the road for two games, one against the Seattle Sounders, a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup Final, and one against the Columbus Crew. It’s a short week so Toronto is back in action on Saturday against the Sounders.

Player that stood out – Sebastian Giovinco

The Atomic Ant is starting to the find the back of the net a lot more frequently and that’s a bad sign for the rest of the MLS. He’s been the best scorer in the MLS since coming over from Italy and he will surely continue to add to that tally. He’s now got five goals on the season and has scored five goals in his last three games. Toronto has been able to get balls into their star striker, and if that keeps happening then the goal scoring barrage will only continue.

Why Toronto Won

Toronto FC won because they scored more goals then the other side. Yes that’s obviously obvious, but they didn’t out possess and control the game like they have all season. Giovinco was clinical in front of goal scoring a beautiful goal on his first and scoring off a nice pass from Vazquez in front of the net for his second.

Three Takeaways

1. The offense keeps going

It’s three wins in a row for the Reds and they’re now sitting third in the Eastern Conference with only one loss on the season. The important thing, however, was that Sebastian Giovinco scored his second two goal game in the last three matches and he now sits in a tie for third with five goals along with teammate Jozy Altidore. The offense just keeps humming and they’ll look for that same success this weekend when they head out west for a rematch against the Sounders.

2. Alex Bono

Clint Irwin is going to be in a battle for the number one starting spot when he comes back from injury. Bono has been on top of his game, and none other than his beautiful goal line save against Cyle Larin last night to keep the game 2-1 and help lead Toronto to a win of the same scoreline. Bono has recorded two clean sheets in his five starts this season and has allowed only two goals on this home stand. Talk about a up-and-comer in the MLS.

3. The Wins keeps coming

While Toronto FC was going into the game with two straight wins, it was going to be no easy task. Toronto jumped out to an early lead on Giovinco’s long range effort that slipped past the goal keeper. Again, Orlando could have walked away with a 3-2 result, but it is important to see Toronto hold on to the three points against a strong opponent.
