The San Jose Earthquakes travel up north to take on Minnesota United as the Loons look to go on a winning streak for the first time in their short MLS history.
After a terrible start to their first season in the MLS, it looks like Minnesota have finally found their footing, winning two of their last four games. San Jose, on the other hand, started the season well with two wins but since then have gone winless in six games, going 0-3-3. San Jose will be looking to turn their record around tonight as Minnesota will look to keep their winning ways going.
Minnesota United
- Current Record (W-L-D): 2-4-2
- Last Time Out: 1-0 Win at Colorado Rapids
- Player to Watch Out For: Johan Venegas. Venegas had a great game last weekend against the Colorado Rapids, with four key passes and an assist. Look for him to try and exploit the San Jose backline.
- Why They Win: Now that Minnesota has started to gain some momentum and confidence after a big win on the road, the Loons come home to take on a side that hasn’t won a game since the beginning of March.
- Why They Won’t: United looked very suspect defensively at the beginning of the season and even though they have stopped most of the bleeding, all Chris Wondolowski needs is one moment of lapse from the backline for him to score.
Projected Starting XI
San Jose Earthquakes
- Current Record (W-L-D): 2-3-3
- Last Time Out: 2-0 loss at Houston Dynamo
- Player to Watch Out For: Anibal Godoy. Godoy has been one of the few consistent bright spots for the Quakes so far this season. It will be a fun battle between Sam Cronin from and Godoy
- Why They Win: San Jose has a talented midfield. Godoy has the ability to keep Cronin occupied defensively, opening up lanes for other players.
- Why They Won’t: San Jose has struggled scoring multiple goals per game since their win against Vancouver in Week 2. Minnesota has found the back of the net in every game this season with the exception of their 2-0 loss to Dallas three weeks ago. If San Jose can’t score more than one goal tonight, then they have no chance at winning.
