MLS Soccer Sunday’s second match of the day features the blockbuster showdown between the Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy on national television.

Both the LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders sit on six points after six matches, in 8th and 9th places respectively. Each club is looking for a statement win to jump start their campaign, and Sunday offers that chance.

On ESPN, two marque name teams, full of talented players, the game has the chance to be an attacking and lively affair. LA will want to impress at home, and Seattle should come out aggressively after dropping their last result to a rival.

  • Current Record (W-L-D): 2-4-0
  • Last Time Out: 2-1 loss at Orlando
  • Player to Watch For: Romain Alessandrini. The new Galaxy DP has been their best player so far this year, but still seems to be under the radar. With LA struggling and Romain not being a big European name, his four goals and two assists seem to be getting less praise than other players with similar stats (Meram, Larin, Villa).
  • Why They Win: Zardes and dos Santos have their first great game as an attacking duo this season. In front of a home crowd and national television audience, the Galaxy stars show up. Even with a questionable defense, LA’s attack puts up too many for Seattle to match in their current form.
  • Why They Don’t: The backline fails to get another clean sheet, and the Seattle attacking three take the advantage all game. Dempsey’s strong play is finally rewarded with a brace, and the LA offensive stars aren’t able to get in sync yet for another match.
  • Predicted Starting Xl:

  • Current Record (W-L-D): 1-2-3
  • Last Time Out: 2-1 loss at Vancouver
  • Player to Watch For: Jordan Morris. With only one goal this season, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, is off to a slow start similar to last year. To be fair no one on the Sounders roster has more than two goals though. A trip to LA might be exactly what Jordan needs. During his last trip there the Sounders beat the Galaxy 4-2, and Morris netted two goals.
  • Why They Win: The offense finally clicks and the chances fall. Dempsey could easily have four or five goals by now, and Nico is creating chances. The LA defense hasn’t kept a clean sheet all season, so the front three of Seattle need to attack early. With a first half lead they can carry that momentum into three points.
  • Why They Don’t: Much like Seattle, LA has tremendous potential in the attack, but the key pieces have failed to all click at the same time so far this season. Gio, Zardes and Alessandrini finally get in sync and shine at home.
