Week 7 Roundup:

Week seven embodied the unpredictable nature of MLS in every single way. Let us walk through a couple of the twist and turns…

  1. David Villa half field goal?! They should really implement bonus points for goals beyond a certain distance. If you read MLS Multiplex Week 7 Fantasy Preview you would have chosen Villa off of our recommended players list and he paid it back in a big way. Other than his amazing half field goal against Philadelphia David Villa managed to earn a nice little 8 points for NYCFC.
  2. Gonzalez Pirez meanwhile did not pay back the faith put in him in our week seven must have fantasy players. Pirez managed to pick a red card against Montreal and a last minute loss as well. This resulted in -3 points for MLS Fantasy…although MLS Disciplinary committee later rescinded the red card. Typical MLS!
  3. At Providence Park in Portland, SKC came away with surprising 1-0 win in front of the Timbers Army. This might have come as a shock to some, but Kansas City’s defense has been rock solid this year with Zusi, Besler, Opara, and Sinovic. Meanwhile fantasy teams took some tolls with Valeri and Adi only combining for a total of seven points.

MLS Week 8 Must Have Players:

1) Nicolas Lodeiro

Lodeiro, the Uruguayan playmaker, is starting to heat up for Seattle, just as he did last season in turning around the Sounders on the road to their MLS Cup victory. This week Seattle faces off against LA Galaxy who are coming off a string of tough losses, especially last week’s last minute loss in Orlando.

LA Galaxy either clicks on offense or they are all over the place, very hit or miss. Nonetheless, they usually struggle against top attacking talent with a makeshift defense due to injuries, such as Robbie Rogers. Lodeiro and company could walk away with a big win at home this weekend.

2) Nemanja Nikolic

Chicago is gaining momentum in the couple of weeks since the arrival of Schweinsteiger. This all bodes well for Nemanja Nikolic who is starting to adapt well in MLS after leading the Polish league in goals last year. Nikolic has racked up 35 points so far in MLS Fantasy and shows no signs of slowing down with Basti, Accam, and McCarty feeding him balls on a platter.

3) Christian Ramirez

Although Minnesota United haven’t put together the best team performances this year, young American striker Christian Ramirez is a man on fire. His pace has him a step in front of opposing center backs at all times and it showed last week against Houston at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Ramirez has managed to score five goals so far this season, but if his finishing improved he could be at seven or eight alone from the game in Houston where he missed several clear chances.
