Both clubs will be looking for three points during this midweek clash, as the New England Revolution host the San Jose Earthquakes.

MLS week eight gets an early start with this midweek, cross-conference clash. The New England Revolution return to Gillette Stadium where they’ve won twice this season already, following a tough 10-man loss to the Chicago Fire.

Meanwhile, the San Jose Earthquakes will be hoping to carry forward their stoppage time goal which saved a point against FC Dallas last Friday.

  • Current Record (W-L-D): 2-3-1
  • Last Time Out: 3-0 Loss at the Chicago Fire
  • Player to Watch For: Kei Kamara. He leads the Revolution in shots and shots on target, and is due a breakout game to find the back of the net. Currently on just two goals.
  • Why They Win: New England only have two wins this season, and they’ve both come at home. The MLS continues to be a tough league to travel in and San Jose will have to fly across country on a short turnaround. They will dominate possession and give Kamara enough opportunities to secure the three points.
  • Why They Won’t: They don’t kill the game off in the first half and allow the Earthquakes to grow into the match. After a trip to Chicago, and playing a man down for a large part of the game, the Revs grow tired in the final 30 minutes and let in a goal (or two).
  • Predicted Starting XI:

  • Current Record (W-L-D): 2-2-2
  • Last Time Out: 1-1 Draw at home against FC Dallas
  • Player to Watch For: Jahmir Hyka. Scored his first MLS goal last Friday with a stoppage time equalizer. He joined the Earthquakes this season, and has over 40 caps for the Albanian national team. After Godoy got the breakout start this season in the San Jose midfield, Hyka has been quietly building momentum leading up to that goal.
  • Why They Win: New England enter the match frustrated after the 3-0 loss to Chicago and tired from the quick turnaround. Chris Wondowloski is due for a big game. He and Godoy pounce early and hold on for the win.
  • Why They Won’t: The Earthquake defense could have easily given up three or four goals to the FC Dallas attack. The Revolution at home are just as good, and knock in two before the half to cruise to a midweek win.
