Team Grade:

Before we issue the match grade, let’s chat about what led us to our final conclusion.

The New Crew:

Last season, Crew SC only won 8 of their total 34 matches. Columbus Crew SC have won 4 of their 7 matches in 2017.

Along with rival Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew SC have been proving to stake their claim as the most-improved club of the season. The Black & Gold defense have been stellar in contrast to the disaster that we saw last year, and Zack Steffen has been showing bursts of brilliance in the goal in the early season.

Package the new and improved defense with the still-solid offense in Columbus and you have a dangerous Crew SC in 2017.

Still Number 1:

The Black & Gold roller coaster seems to be heading back uphill this season.

For the third straight week, Columbus Crew SC end the week at the top of the Eastern Conference.

After making it to the MLS Cup in 2015 as the Eastern Conference Champions, Columbus had a long fall from grace, spending all of last season wallowing at the bottom of the conference. If Columbus can continue to create chances on offense, exploit shoddy defending, and continue to be able to count on the back half of the pitch, Crew SC may very well be on track for a third Eastern Conference title.

Final Grade: A-

Another big win for Columbus, knocking off the defending Eastern Conference Champions, keeps them in first in the conference, and brings them closer to having an “A grade” for the season.

Match Grade: A-

Average Season Grade: B
