NASL Weekend Review and Updated Standings

It was an exciting weekend of action in the NASL as the Jacksonville Armada go top of the table.

Puerto Rico FC vs. Indy Eleven

Just a week after a 3-3 draw, Puerto Rico and the Eleven finished deadlocked again after 90 minutes at 1-1. Both goals came in the first half with Hector Ramos giving the home side the lead in the 19th minute. Then Eamon Zayed equalized in the third minute of first-half stoppage time. All three of the two sides opening fixtures have ended on level terms.

Miami FC vs. New York Cosmos

The Cosmos spoiled Miami’s home opener with a 2-0 win in Florida. Both of the defending champions goals came in the second half. Daniel Szetela scored in the 58th minute, heading home a cross from Ryan Richter.

In the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time, Ayoze would dispatch a spot kick to ensure that all three points would go back to New York with the Cosmos.

Jimmy Maurer had a fantastic performance to record the clean sheet. The Cosmos goalkeeper made eight saves on eight shots faced.

FC Edmonton vs. Jacksonville Armada

For the second straight week, the Armada was victorious against Edmonton by the same scoreline, 1-0. This time the club scored early and were able to hold on.

Zach Steinberger scored in the eighth minute after sneaking in a shot off the near post. Edmonton hit the crossbar in the 87th minute as the Armada held their breath for what looked like the equalizing goal.

Caleb Patterson-Sewell gets the clean sheet, the goalkeeper made three saves on three shots faced.

San Francisco Deltas vs. North Carolina FC

The Deltas won their first match as a club in the final match on Saturday, the California club scored three unanswered goals to win 3-1.

Tiyi Shipalane tucked home a rebound in the 23rd minute to open the scoring. The home side would level the match right before halftime as striker Thomas Heinemann got behind the defense to score his first of the season.

In the second half, the Deltas would put two past the keeper. Their second goal was an absolute firecracker as Pablo Dyego scored one of the goals of the season in the 82nd minute. In the 90th minute, Heinemann would score his second of the match to put the result in the bag.
