2. Seattle Sounders FC finish in last place

Perhaps the most surprising result of the 2017 Carolina Challenge Cup was the final standing of the MLS Cup Champions. The Seattle Sounders FC landed in last place, going winless in the three round tournament.

The Sounders looked to have the Charleston Battery put away in their Round 1 contest, holding a 1-0 lead at the 90 minute mark. However, the Battery landed a goal in the 92nd minute to clinch a 1-1 draw. When the Sounders faced Atlanta for the first time, Atlanta United were dominate, landing a 4-2 win.

The final round of the tournament saw Columbus Crew SC keep the Sounders scoreless with a 1-0 win, and Seattle left Charleston with a whimper instead of a bang.

Once again, this is preseason. Still, Sounders fans couldn’t have expected the defending Champions to go winless in the tournament and end with only one point.
