3. Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC) – 17 goals
Sebastian Giovinco had a slightly less productive goal scoring season by his usual standards although that’s probably because he was busy trying to top the assist charts as well. His return of 17 goals in 28 games at a rate of 0.63 goals per game along with a 15 assist haul and four winners ensured Toronto FC‘s progress to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the second year running following their third place finish in the Eastern Conference.
Nicknamed ‘the Atomic Ant’ in his youth due to his diminutive stature, the 30-year-old Italian continued to show his importance to the Reds in 2016 with his quick and technically gifted style of play. His combined goal and assist tally of 32 makes him the most involved player in the league in terms of goal output, and takes his current record for the club to 39 goals and 31 assists in 61 regular season games, which is a pretty remarkable.
