Top 10 Goal Scorers of the 2016 MLS regular season
By Rohit Menon
4. Ignacio Piatti (Montreal Impact) – 17 goals
Montreal Impact midfielder Ignacio Piatti‘s inclusion this high on the list may surprise a few, but it’s a deserved one based on his consistent displays in 2016. The Argentine is the highest scoring midfielder in the top 10 with 17 goals being scored at an average of 0.54.
The 32-year-old’s increased productivity in goal surely stems from increased playing time that resulted from no major injury problems in the year. Add six assists and five game-winning goals to his contributions and it becomes pretty apparent that he was one of the chief forces behind the Impact‘s deep run in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
