9. Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers) – 14 goals
Diego Valeri experienced his highest ever goal-scoring season since moving to the Portland Timbers four years ago, beating the 2014’s 11 goal tally. His performances were a marked improvement on the 2015 campaign, where he didn’t score double-digit goals for the first time in his MLS career – despite the club’s MLS Cup.
The technically gifted midfielder played 30 games and scored 14 times at an average of 0.48 goals per game, but couldn’t stop his side from missing out on an MLS Cup Playoff spot. He won four games for his club with game-winning goals in the regular season and also notched an assist on seven occasions.
