Second Round Results – February 22

  • Columbus Crew SC – 1, Charleston Battery – 1

Charleston Battery proved their Round 1 draw was no fluke, once again taking a MLS opponent to the limit and pulling a second draw. Columbus Crew SC trailed 1-0 at the half, but was able to secure a draw with a 63rd minute goal.

  • Atlanta United FC – 4, Seattle Sounders FC – 2

In what was the biggest shocker of the tournament thus far, Atlanta United FC dominated the Seattle Sounders. At one point, Atlanta had a 4-0 lead over the MLS Cup Champs, however the Sounders fought back in the second half scoring 2 goals. Even with reserves in the match for Seattle, Atlanta has to feel optimistic about their first preseason thus far.

Standings after Round 2:

  1. Columbus Crew SC (1-0-1) PTS – 4
  2. Atlanta United FC (1-1-0) PTS – 3
  3. Charleston Battery (0-0-2) PTS – 2
  4. Seattle Sounders FC (0-1-1) PTS – 1

Surprisingly, the MLS Cup Champs sit winless at the bottom of the bracket. Columbus held on to their first place slot with a draw against Charleston, and can clinch the cup with a win against the Sounders in Round 3.
