 6. David Beckham

The man this whole Designated Player stuff is all about. The MLS created the “Beckham Rule” after the LA Galaxy signed the England superstar back in 2007.  Beckham signed with the Galaxy for a fee of US$32.5 million in total or $6.5 million per year on a five-year contract.

Not only did Beckham change the landscape of Major League Soccer and helped shape it in what it is today he also helped shape the whole soccer landscape in America.  The MLS will never be the same and we are forever thankful to the English golden boy.  Becks walked away with two MLS Cup championships before leaving the Galaxy.
