Smart Spending: The 10 greatest Designated Players in MLS History
By Mark Shannon
7. David Villa
How could you not include the reigning MLS MVP on this list? The former La Liga and Spanish National star has been a hit in the Big Apple ever since his arrival in 2015. The Spaniard helped the Bronx Blues bag 17 more points in 2015 by scoring 18 goals in 30 appearances.
He followed that successful campaign up with another 23 goals in 33 games in 2016 and has now amassed 41 goals in 63 games. Talk about a goal scoring machine. Villa would love nothing more than to help The Bronx Blues bring home a title to New York. The 2017 season should be fun to watch Villa’s magic on the pitch.
