Hope Solo TV Interview and new deal with INvelop

Hope Solo was recently interviewed on Showtime’s “60 Minutes Sports”. Then last week she signed a television deal with INvelop Entertainment.

On February 2017, Norah O’Donnell sat down with Hope Solo on Showtime’s “60 Minutes Sports”. Here are some of the standout comments from the interview from around the web:

On shoulder surgery from Stars and Stripes FC:

"Solo also discussed her shoulder replacement surgery, describing the titanium rod they inserted in her shoulder that extends down to her elbow, and saying she expects to be back to performing at a high level “within the next year.”"

On Jill Ellis from Sounder at Heart website:

"60 Minutes Sports didn’t air the direct quote from Solo, but instead quoted her in a voice over by Norah O’Donnell, who conducted the interview, calling USWNT Head Coach Jill Ellis “a bad leader and poor tactician”."

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) comments as quoted in the video below:

"“…. we are ready for this battle, do what it takes. This is for women across the world, and this is much bigger cause than just playing soccer. We are all on the right side of history. People with power just don’t give it up. You have to take it, and you have to fight for it.”"

TV Development Deal

Announced on February 8, 2017, Solo signed a production and development television deal with INvelop Entertainment. Here is a look at the press release, from The Comeback‘s site.

"Two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Hope Solo announced today a production and development agreement with Brant Pinvidic’s INvelop Entertainment to develop and produce compelling and original unscripted content.Under the new deal, Hope and her manager Tiffany Shine will serve as Executive Producers together with INvelop Entertainment. The first project under the partnership will be a new season of the sports medical series, “The Cutting Edge,” with Solo attached to host."

"The series follows athletes through a fascinating journey examining the risks of common sports injuries, the treatment and rehabilitation methods, and the most current research available. Solo was featured in the first season which aired on FOX Sports 1. “I am very excited for the opportunity to work with Brant and INvelop Entertainment,” said Solo. “He is an industry leader that shares my passion for unique story-telling and together we look forward to delivering content that will resonate with not just sports fans but all viewers.”"

Thoughts:

  • We will not see Hope Solo play soccer in 2017. However, will we see her in 2018 after she recovers from her shoulder surgery? She has indicated that she would like to compete in the 2019 World Cup at age 38. She feels that she will still be physically fit and deserves a chance. Unfortunately for Solo, with the strained relationship with the U.S. Soccer Federation, it is highly unlikely that she will receive an invitation.
  • In the meantime, fans only chance to check out Hope Solo will be on her show “The Cutting Edge”, coming from INvelop Entertainment.

Only time will tell what will happen from this point on with Hope Solo’s playing career, her new deal with INvelop Entertainment, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
