Don’t let 2016 fool you; this franchise suffered years of struggle. Last season’s run marked not only their first time in MLS Cup, but also their first ever playoff victory. In fact, the club only made it to ten wins in a season once in their first seven years.
Although they have won the Canadian Championship five times during their time in MLS, they found league action difficult. A number of new coaching regimes and big signings rotated through Toronto before things finally began to turn around in 2014. Eventually signing Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, and Sebastian Giovinco proved to be enough firepower. So while a place as the 2nd worst winningest MLS team of all time is surprising, that number will surely look much better in five years time.
