Coney Island, are you ready? You heard it right, Coney Island is the new home for the New York Cosmos for the upcoming 2017 NASL season.

The New York Cosmos announced earlier this month that MCU Park in Brooklyn will serve as their home stadium for 2017.  The Cosmos home opener falls on April 1st this year and they will be met by Alessandro Nesta and Miami FC.  For the rest of the season, MCU Park will be home to 16 regular season NASL games for the Cosmos.

Going back to the 1971 Cosmos and their ‘original home’ stadium, here’s what the Cosmos Chairman, Rocco B. Commisso had to say about the move:

"During the Cosmos’ inaugural season in 1971, the team played at Yankee Stadium.  With our move to MCU Park in Brooklyn, we are not only able to offer fans easy access to a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience, but we are also reconnecting the club to its original New York City roots.  Adding the excitement of Cosmos’ games to Coney Island’s already vibrant atmosphere will be a win-win for our club and soccer enthusiasts throughout the metropolitan area"

MCU Park and Coney Island is also home to the Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league baseball team affiliate of the New York Mets.  With extensive bleachers and public seating available to all fans alike, the Cosmos supporters should have no trouble fitting in.

New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio also commented on the arrival of the fabled soccer franchise:

"With the Cosmos coming to Brooklyn, we’re adding a world class franchise to New York City’s proud soccer tradition.  We couldn’t be more proud to welcome the New York Cosmos to the five boroughs."

The Cosmos also released this hype video to let Brooklyn and the rest of the league know that they are looking forward to their new home as well as the start of the 2017 season.
