5) Juan Pablo Saavedra

Position: Defender

University: Virginia Tech

Fourth round: Pick 21 (Day 2)

Virginia Tech’s Juan Pablo Saavedra was Toronto’s last pick from the MLS SuperDraft. At just 5’8” , the Springfield born defender is more of a wing-back rather than a conventional defender, which is showcased by his statistics from the 2016 season – 22 starts, four assists.

He played the most number of minutes out of all the Virginia Tech players last season and could slot in effortlessly into coach Greg Vanney’s 3-5-2 formation for Toronto, either as a back-up Steven Beitashour or Justin Morrow.

Grade: B+
