3) Øyvind Alseth

Position: Defensive midfielder

University: Syracuse University

Third round: Pick 21 (Day 2)

Syracuse University captain Oyvind Alseth was the Reds’ next pick in the third round of the SuperDraft. A constant presence in the starting lineup over his four years with the Orange, the Norwegian started all matches in 2016 and racked up four assists.

Alseth is a combative defensive midfielder who also likes to get involved in the final third, and this is evident from his average shots per game statistic of 0.84. His addition strengthens the Toronto FC midfield following the departure of Will Johnson to Orlando City at the end of the 2016 campaign.
