FC Dallas expected to announce DP signing in coming week
By Marcel Dumas
Whoever FC Dallas brings in as their third DP, fans will be counting on him to make his mark. This is a club that expects to be capturing silverware now and in the future.
Rumors on the next FC Dallas DP signing began making the rounds over the weekend. Once former designated player Fabian Castillo made his move to Turkey permanent the wheels were set in motion.
FCD owner Dan Hunt gave the fan base more than the draft to look forward with comments reported this morning. Hunt stated “Hopefully we’re going to fill that last DP place this week, so we will be full and we will have spent every dollar of TAM (targeted allocation money) and potentially with one other iteration we will also have spent most of our allocation money”. This alone should excite fans more than this weeks draft.
The smart money is on a number 9 type player. Previous history also suggests that the player will be from South or Central America. Dallas does not sign big name players, rather they spend their efforts identifying young affordable talent.

The name that has been on the radar this week has been Cristian Colman, a Paraguyan striker. Colman ticks the boxes of the type of player FCD appears to be interested in. He is a striker with good size and speed. Colman plays the number 9 role, and is just short of his 23rd birthday. He also fits into the price range of player Dallas would be willing to pursue.
Outside of the Colman rumors, it can be difficult to gauge who else may be on FC Dallas‘s radar. Previous DP signings Mauro Diaz and Fabian Castillo were both unknowns to American soccer fans prior to their arrival. Last season’s DP addition, Carlos Gruezo was wanting for time in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart. He was also a relative unknown despite his inclusion on Ecuador’s 2014 World Cup squad.
With that in mind, one should not rule out a talented young player who has fallen out of favor or is not getting their opportunity in Europe. A player like Angelo Henriquez of Dinamo Zagreb would be the type that fits this profile.
