Injuries Could Cost Bill Hamid Future Starting Role with USMNT
DC United and US Men’s National Team goalkeeper Bill Hamid’s injuries could cost him going forward with the national team.
One of the hottest goalkeeping prospects for the past few years has been DC United‘s goaltender Bill Hamid. The 26-year-old has been one of the best goalkeepers in the MLS but his injuries have held him back from breaking through with the United States Men’s National Team.

The past three years, in fact have seen him not be called in to the national team’s January camp because of injury. In 2015, Hamid picked up a shoulder injury. In 2016 Hamid had a knee injury that, after being evaluated by the nation team’s medical staff, was sent home. Now in 2017 DC United‘s shot-stopper is being kept out of the January camp because of a knee injury he picked up during the offseason.
With all these injuries hurting Hamid and his call ups into the national team camp, how much longer will the US National Team and newly appointed head coach Bruce Arena keep trying to get him into the side. At this point, Bill Hamid could be a huge liability going into a major summer tournament and could be injured during the middle of World Cup play. It might be time to move past Hamid and look to other goalkeepers to take over for Guzan and Howard in the back.
