MLS Opening Weekend: Top six exciting match-ups from Week 1

1. The Defending MLS Cup Champions (Seattle Sounders FC @ Houston Dynamo)

Once the confetti finished falling after the most-watched MLS Cup in history, one question remained on the lips of MLS fans around the country: “Did Seattle deserve to win?”

After winning the MLS Cup without registering a single shot on goal during the entire match, the question was debated all over social media. The most decided upon answer ended up being, “It doesn’t matter. They won.”

Seattle Sounders FC enter into 2017 the defending champions, and you would have to imagine they are looking to silence their critics.

Houston Dynamo finished 2016 on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Houston finished dead-last in the Western Conference, and second to last in the entire league. Knocking off the defending MLS Cup champions would be a huge coup for the Dynamo, and a great way to start 2017. Seattle, meanwhile, will have to delay raising their title winning banner, having to hit the road in week 1.
