Next up is the 2016 Supporters’ Shield and US Open Cup holders FC Dallas. Many dubbed Dallas to be one of the favorites to win MLS Cup but once Mauro Diaz went down with a torn Achilles tendon during their 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders, it didn’t seem likely to complete the first MLS domestic treble. During the season which saw the FC Dallas youth light up the MLS, Dallas committed the 6th most fouls during the regular season, 5 more than the Portland Timbers with 443.

The surprising part of this was that FC Dallas, though committing more fouls than about 3/4 of the league, didn’t break into the top 10 when the MLS disciplinary points were taken into account. They finished in 12 place with 568 points, 34 off the top 10. They only received 1 red card all season which was picked by defender Maynor Figueroa in a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of the Seattle Sounders.
