The dirtiest team in the 2016 MLS season was DC United. Though making the playoffs after finishing in 4th place in the Easter Conference, United fell in the first round to the Montreal Impact. During the regular season they committed a total of 507 fouls, 28 more than any other team in the league. They also finished first in the MLS disciplinary with 713 points. They had a total of 64 yellow cards and 3 red cards. Though that is a low number of red cards compared to the Whitecaps, DC almost averaged 2 yellow cards a game.

One of these red cards, though, was especially bad. Kofi Opare saw straight red for a studs up tackle in their 1-1 draw against the Montreal Impact. The tackle was hard and reckless and luckily Marco Donadel was able to somehow get out of the way before the tackle came in. You can watch the tackle here.
