If Fired, Who Should Replace Jurgen Klinsmann?
After two straight loses in World Cup Qualifying, including an uninspiring 4-0 loss to Costa Rica, Jurgen Klinsmann might be in trouble.
US Soccer fans are not happy. In the past week we have seen the end to Dos-a-Cero and a complete thrashing of the Red, White, and Blue down in Costa Rica. Jurgen Klinsmann is now under a lot of heat and many are calling for his sacking. Who would be the best replacement for him?
Bruce Arena
Appointing Bruce Arena as head coach probably makes the most sense. Arena has had experience coaching the USMNT before, leading the team to their best ever World Cup finish in 2002. On top of that, with the way things are falling apart at the LA Galaxy, is makes sense for Arena to take on a different challenge. Arena has been a great coach for a very long time and his appointment to the USMNT would be fairly simple.
Oscar Pareja
Currently the head coach of FC Dallas, Pareja could be exactly what the USMNT need. From his time in Dallas, we have seen his ability to work with youth such as Mauro Diaz (25 years old), Kellyn Acosta (21 years old) and Walker Zimmerman (23 years old). The USMNT is currently at a turning point with the youth that are coming in and Pareja could easily be the guy to get the best of our Pulisics and Greens.
Louis Van Gaal
It seems that US Soccer is looking for an American to take over for Klinsmann but Van Gaal is now available after being sacked by Manchester United at the end of last season. He has experience with the Netherlands Men’s National Team and had success with the side, finishing the 2014 World Cup with a 3-0 victory over the hosts Brazil in the consolidation game. If anything Van Gaal would bring some lightheartedness to the USMNT.
Sigi Schmid
After being sacked as the Sounders head coach at the end of July, Sigi has made it known that he is not done coaching yet. Though his only experience with the national team side is with the U-20s before the turn on the century, Schmid is still a solid coach who could do some great things at the helm. Though he is a decent option, he is probably not who US Soccer wants to take over.

Peter Vermes
Vermes has no actual experience coaching at the national team level but had some playing time with the USMNT back in his playing days. The long time Sporting Kansas City coach has been dubbed by many as the future coach of the USMNT but it’s not quite his time yet. Maybe after he gets more experience with the U-20s or as an assistant for the national team.
If any of these coaches are chosen the USMNT would be in, at the very least, capable hands. Keep following MLS Multiplex for the latest on the USMNT and the MLS.
