The Seattle Sounders battle the Houston Dynamo to a scoreless draw as Rave Green miss an opportunity to secure their spot in the playoffs.

The Seattle Sounders and the Houston Dynamo played to a scoreless draw at CenturyLink Field. The home side missed an important chance to lock up their place in the postseason with a victory. This was a game of missed chances and multiple close calls as both sides were unlucky to not score at least once but both goalkeepers and defenses came up big at the end of the day.

Nicolas Lodeiro and Jordan Morris each returned to the Sounders’ Starting XI after they participated in their respective countries intentional games. Lodeiro returned from play with Uruguay and Morris returned after the USMNT’s friendly with Cuba. Their return was expected to boost Seattle’s play in this one but that never came to fruition.

The Seattle Sounders improved to 13W-13L-6D on the season with 45 total points. That ties them with Real Salt Lake for fourth place in the Western Conference. With the draw, the Dynamo remained at the basement of the West with a 7W-13L-12D record with 33 points on the year.

Huge Save From Frei

Sounders’ goalkeeper, Stefan Frei, made a huge save in the first half when Houston had their first chance of the match. The shot from Will Bruin was turned onto the post by Frei and eventually ricochet back into play. The chance in the 30′ minute was one of the best strikes of the night but certainly not the only.

Double Save From Willis

Seattle had arguably their best chance of the game in the 40′ minute when Erik Friberg was one on one with Joe Willis. Houston’s keeper somehow saved Friberg’s initial shot but the Sounder’s midfielder caught the rebound and had his sights on the empty net. Willis quickly recovered and got a fingertip on the ball to force it out of play to keep the game scoreless.

POST! Again…

Early in the second half the Dynamo had another great chance when Keyner Brown’s header bounced off post and eventually out of play. Jose Escalante’s corner was perfectly placed and Houston were unlucky to score from the opportunity.

Seattle’s Hope For Three Points Died With a Red Card

While the first half was scoreless, the Sounders were hoping to find a breakthrough in the second 45′. They may have had more chances but Osvaldo Alonso received a straight red card in the 64′ minute. Rave Green were forced to play with 10 men and a man down for the remainder of the game and their hopes of obtaining three points were forced to turn into maintaining a clean sheet to come away with a point.
