The Seattle Sounders continued their impressive push for the playoffs as they picked up three points with a 2-1 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Seattle Sounders pulled off a comeback win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Cascadia Cup clash. The 2-1 win for the away team continues their unbelievable push towards the postseason in the Western Conference. With the loss, Vancouver are now eliminated from playoff contention this season.

Vancouver are now winless in their last three matches as they have lost two out of their last three. Seattle recorded their fourth straight win and extended their unbeaten streak to five games. The Sounders have only lost one match in their last 11 games.

Vancouver Convert From the Spot

The Whitecaps got out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Pedro Morales converted from the penalty spot. The referee awarded a penalty when Alphonso Davies was brought down inside the box by Oniel Fisher. Morales scored his eighth goal of the season with the penalty in the 25′ minute.

Sounders Equalize Before the Half

Seattle equalized later in the 39′ minute when Osvaldo Alonso scored to level the score at 1-1. A great cross from Joevin Jones found Alonso in the box and he fired it home for his third goal of the season. This is the second straight game in which the midfielder has found the back of the net.

Whitecaps Down to Only 10 Men

Vancouver midfielder, Pedro Morales, was sent off in the 53′ minute after he received a red card for elbowing Christian Roldan in the head. It was a reckless play from Morales and even if it wasn’t hard, the intent was there. The Whitecaps were down to 10 men for the remainder of the match after Pedro received a well deserved red.

Another Penalty. Another Red Card.

The red awarded Seattle a penalty late in the second half after a blatant hand ball from Vancouver. Brad Evans stepped up and scored from the spot int he 81′ minute. Just minutes later, Evans got sent off in the 84′ minute after picking up a red card for attempting to head butt a Whitecaps’ player. It was a crazy end to the match but the Sounders came away with three points.

The international break will cut into the Major League Soccer schedule and teams won’t play for about a week. The Vancouver Whitecaps will be on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes in their next match on Sunday, October 16th. The Seattle Sounders will return to action against the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, October 12th.
