Toronto FC vs D.C. United: Key Moments
Lamar Neagle’s brace led D.C. United to an important 2-1 win over Toronto FC as they picked up all three points on the road.
D.C United continued their late season push to the playoffs with a huge 2-1 victory over Toronto FC. Even though TFC were at home, United came away with all three points at BMO Field. D.C. became only the third team this season to win in Toronto as Lamar Neagle led the with two goals in the match.
In a match between to playoff bound clubs in the Eastern Conference, D.C. United had an unlikely hero in their win over TFC. DC won their third straight match and are now unbeaten in their last five games. This defeat snaps TFC four game unbeaten streak. Sebastian Giovinco wasn’t available in this one for Toronto but Jozy Altidore continued his great form.
With the loss, Toronto FC stagnated in the Eastern Conference standings with 49 total points and a 13W-9L-10D record on the season. They have already clinched their playoff spot in the East but they are now the third seed behind New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls. D.C. United moved into the fourth seed with the win and are now 10W-9L-13D on the year with 43 points which is now four points ahead of the red line.

Jozy Altidore’s Wondergoal
TFC got out to a somewhat early 1-0 lead when Jozy Altidore scored in the 36′ minute. The United States international scored off of a fantastic move that saw him fool United defenders. It was a great solo effort as Jozy recorded his ninth goal of the season.
D.C. United Strike Back
D.C. weren’t behind for long as midfielder, Lamar Neagle, equalized in the 39′ minute. He scored his eighth goal of the season when the ball found his head a few feet from outside of the goal. The ball bounced around in the penalty area for awhile but it eventually fell to Neagle who scored the easy one to level the game 1-1.
Lamar Neagle’s Match Winner
United’s hero found a game winner in the 58′ minute as Neagle scored his second goal of the match to record a brace. The goal came after a wonderful through pass from Lloyd Sam who found Lamar string down the right side of the pitch. He hit it first time and found the back of the net past goalkeeper, Clint Irwin.
With the international break, both teams will be out of MLS action for a while. Toronto FC will look to bounce back in their next match on the road against the Montreal Impact on Sunday, October 16th. D.C. United will look to carry their momentum into the next game as they face off with NYCFC at home.
