FC Dallas vs LA Galaxy: Key Moments
FC Dallas shutout the LA Galaxy as they recorded a 1-0 win at home. The victory inches them closer to hoisting the Supporters’ Shield this season.
In a match between two playoff contending teams in the Western Conference, FC Dallas picked up a 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy as they walked away with three points. Even with all the scoring talent that Los Angeles have, they were held scoreless in this one for only the eighth time this season. Walker Zimmerman’s lone gaol was the difference maker in this one.
With the win, Dallas snapped their three game winless run and extended their unbeaten streak to three games as well. On the other hand, Los Angeles dropped their second straight match. They are struggling and in desperate need of a result or a win in their next game.
FCD are now 16W-8L-8D on the season with 56 total points. They have a five point lead in the race for the Supporters’ Shield this year ahead of New York City FC, the New York Red Bulls, and the Colorado Rapids. The Galaxy dropped to 11W-6L-15D on the season with 48 points which leaves them in third place in the Western Conference.

Walker Zimmerman Gets the Scoring Started
FC Dallas secured the lead in the first half when Walker Zimmerman scored in the 39′ minute. It was the defender’s fourth goal of the season. Zimmerman scored with a knockdown header after Mauro Diaz played a great ball in from the corner.
Jelle Van Damme Picks Up a Yellow Card
Galaxy center back, Jelle Van Damme, picked up a yellow card in the 87′ minute of the match and he will now miss the team’s next game as a result. The Belgium international has arguably been LA’s best defender and one of the best center backs in all of MLS. They will have to do without him in their next game against the Houston Dynamo.
Galaxy Not Able to Find the Mark
The LA Galaxy missed an important opportunity to gain points on FC Dallas and the Rapids in a chance to grab the second seed in the West. Even with all the attacking talent that Los Angeles have in Robbie Keane, Giovani dos Santos, Steven Gerrard, and even Landon Donovan, they were unable to score in this match. With their seven shots in the game, they only had one shot on target.
With the international break coming up, both teams will be out of action for a while. FC Dallas will take on the Seattle Sounders at home on Sunday, October 16th. The LA Galaxy will be on the road once again in their next match against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, October 16th.
