After New York City FC found a late equalizer at home against FC Dallas, the match ended in a 2-2 draw and both teams walked away with a point apiece.
New York City FC and FC Dallas battled it out in a fun match between two of the top teams in each conference. Fittingly, the game full of excitement ended in a 2-2 draw that saw each club come away with a point. A late equalizer from an unexpected candidate gave NYCFC a point in this one.
This match included all of the big names like David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, and Frank Lampard going up against the best team in MLS so far this season. FC Dallas have been great on the road this season and they continued that trend as they earned a result in this one. Each side settle for a draw and improved their positioning for the playoffs.
New York City FC missed a chance to go atop the East but the point improves their record to 12W-9L-9D with 45 points on the season. FC Dallas extended their lead in the West as they are now 15W-8L-7D with 52 total points. They are still in the lead for the Supporters’ Shield this year.

1. Early Scoring
NYCFC’s Thomas McNamara got the scoring started in the 8′ minute when he scored his fifth goal of the season off of an assist from Jack Harrison. He was close to being offsides on the play but Dallas’ defense looked to keep him just onside. Maximiliano Urruti scored his eighth goal of the year and tied things up in the 20′ minute when his shot blasted past Josh Saunders. Those early goals were the only scores of the first half.
2. Lampard Injury
Frank Lampard was forced to exit the game in the 42′ minute due to a possible calf injury. He has been one of the best players for NYCFC this season and is a main reason for the team’s success. He missed the first 12 games of 2016 due to a calf strain earlier in the year. Hopefully the injury isn’t too serious with the postseason just around the corner.
3. Late Equalizer
After FC Dallas took the lead in the 52′ minute from a Michael Barrios goal, New York City FC spent the rest of the second half searching for an equalizer. The home team were able to find it in the 78′ minute when Jack Harrison played a great cross into the box and Khiry Shelton’s header placed the ball into the back of the net. Harrison recorded his second assist of the match and Shelton scored him third goal of the season.
New York City FC will next face off against the Chicago Fire on Friday, September 23rd. FC Dallas will stay on the road as they travel to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake on Saturday, September 24th. After both clubs walked away with a point in this one, they will each be looking for a win next time out.
