The New York Red Bulls gave up yet another 2-0 lead against DC United after a late goal leaves both sides with a point after this match.

The New York Red Bulls dropped points in this one as they conceded two late goal against DC United once again. United are in a desperate position and need points in order to make the playoffs this season and they came back to steal an important one away from home. This is the first time ever that New York have dropped a 2-0 lead at Red Bulls’ Arena.

This is the second time this season that the Red Bulls gave up a 2-0 lead over DC. New York gave up a 2-0 lead in their last game against United just a few weeks ago. The NYRB have now lost once and drawn twice against their rivals.

The draw puts New York tied for the second spot in the Eastern Conference with NYCFC. The Red Bulls now have 44 total points and have a 12-9-8 record on the season. DC United picked up a valuable point as they are in a heated playoff race. With 33 points (7-9-12), they are only one point behind Orlando City SC for the final playoff spot.

1. New York’s Breakthrough

The New York Red Bulls found a breakthrough in the 35′ minute when they scored the first goal of the match. Gonzalo Veron headed in a close range effort after Sacha Kljestan’s run into the box saw the ball deflect off Bill Hamid. The rebound hung around near the goal line and Veron recorded his third goal of the season.

2. BWP Keeps Producing

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his league-leading 18th goal of the season in the 54′ minute. BWP continues to produce for NYRB as he slotted home the strong strike near post past Bill Hamid. Daniel Royer recorded his first assist with New York on the play. If Wright-Phillips continues his incredible form, this is a tough team to beat.

3. DC United Does it Again

DC United always give NYRB fits. ALWAYS, For the second time this season, United came back from a 2-0 deficit against New York to draw level before the final whistle. Two late goals, one in the 89′ minute from Steve Birnbaum, and another from Lamar Neagle in the final minute of extra time saw DC walk away with a point. The last goal came in 90+5′ after a scramble in front of goal that saw Neagle come up with the equalizer.

The New York Red Bulls will next face off against Alianza in the CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday, September 15th. Their next MLS match will be in Toronto in a battle for the top of the Eastern Conference. In their next match, DC United will take on the Chicago Fire on Friday, September 16th.
