The nightmare season continued for the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at BBVA Compass stadium. Once again as Houston looked to be in control of a match, the team faltered and FC Dallas rallied from a goal down. The loss prompted interim Houston Dynamo head coach Wade Barrett to state unequivocally that things would change following a 3-1 dismantling of his team to MLS Western Conference leading FC Dallas.

Houston once again had the lead and let it slip away.  An Alex Lima laser like cannon shot made it 1-0 eluding FCD keeper Chris Seitz before settling top shelf far post.  The 19th minute goal gave Houston the early lead for the fourth consecutive match only to see three points evaporate once more. Since July 2nd, the Houston Dynamo are 2-3-5.  In six of those matches, the Houston Dynamo had the early lead meaning they squandered a possible 18 points instead settling for 11 points and making little headway towards a playoff berth.

Saturday night’s loss was even more bitter than Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders.  Houston responded aginst FCD exactly as Barrett had expected. Since the 94th minute goal three days earlier, the coaching staff and players had focused on three things concentration, discipline and execution leading to the Dallas game but in the end it mattered not.

“You can’t let good teams hang around,” said Barrett explained in the most simplest of terms.

Houston has continued to that time and time again  in 2016.  In fact the men in orange have allowed a 90th minute goal or later three times this season beginning with the season opener as New England’s Daigo Kobayashi’s goal in the 93rd minute turned a 3-2 win into a 3-3 draw.  Houston (5-11-10) has drawn first blood in 15 of 26 games this season yet only sports a 4-5-6 record over that span.

It is something that has left the team enduring heartache more times than not and left a frustrated fanbase shaking its head.  Soccer is a game about finishing something Houston has tried to do but has come up short more often than not. Tied 1-1 in the 59th minute after Mauro DIaz converted a penalty kick, FC Dallas defender Maynor Figueroa put a ball over the the top that midfielder Michael Barrios ran onto and chipped over a charging Joe Willis.  The Dynamo keeper would get beat less than a minute later as Barrios delivered again this time on a counter.

Meanwhile Houston could not finish. Manotas, the young Columbian striker could not find the range on a no less than three occasions, Midfielder Boniek Garcia could not find the net nor could Lima after this 19th minute goal or Ricardo Clark who was making his 300th career appearance in Major League Soccer.

Houston will have 13 days off before facing off with Sporting Kansas City on Friday September 9th.
