Orlando City SC get a vital win at home as they were led by Kaká who scored a brace in the team’s 2-1 win over New York City FC.

In a match-up between the two expansion teams from last year, Orlando City SC and New York City FC faced off at the Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium. Designated players were in full force as David Villa, Frank Lampard, and Andrea Pirlo started for NYCFC. Kaká‘s world-class talent prevailed in this one as he led OCSC with his two goals. Orlando have not lost a match this season when Kaká has scored.

After going four game without a loss, NYCFC took their first defeat since July 24th. On the other hand, Orlando got back in the win column with their first victory since July31st. New York dropped vital points in this match as OCSC gained some important ground on a potential playoff spot.

Orlando City SC currently have 31 total points (6-7-13) on the season and are only one point off of D.C. United for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. New York City FC have lost their top spot in the East and are now falling behind Toronto FC. NYCFC have 41 points (11-8-8) on the year.

1. Kaká’s Strike of Brilliance

Kaká seemed to turn back the clock as he showcased a bit of brilliance even in his advanced age. The Brazilian international had a quick burst of pace as he blew by the NYCFC defense on a counter attack in the 32′ minute. His first attempt on goal was saved by Josh Saunders but he buried home the rebound and scored his

2. Mendoza’s Equalizer

After a great cross from Tommy McNamara found Frank Lampard, the English international fired a shot on goal that was saved by Joe Bendik. The rebound ricocheted to Steven Mendoza. He then fired the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer in the 55′ minute.

3. PENALTY!!!

A great pass from Orlando’s Matias Perez Garcia to Kaka led to the NYCFC defense taking down Kaká inside the penalty area. The 34-year old slotted home the penalty in the 63′ minute for his sixth goal of the season. It turned out to be the match winner in this one. This was Kaká’s 44th game for OCSC but the first time that he has scored multiple goals in one match.

New York City FC will return to action on September 1st when they take on D.C. United as they look to bounce back from this match. Orlando City SC will next play on September 7th against the Montreal Impact. OCSC will look to build on this big win in that one.
