Key players for the LA Galaxy suffered injuries as Los Angeles were forced to settle with for a scoreless draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Scoring problems for the LA Galaxy continued in their match against the Vancouver Whitecaps as both sides settled for a scoreless draw. Los Angeles has now suffered a draw in five of their last six games. Vancouver also extended their winless draught to a season high seven games.

The struggling Whitecaps were in desperate need of points as they are near the bottom of the Western Conference. They now have 31 total points (8-12-7) but are only a few spots out of the final playoff spot in the West. A positive sign for Vancouver was that they snapped their four game losing streak with this draw.

The LA Galaxy are currently at 40 total points (9-4-12) on the season as they are in fourth place in the West. Even though Los Angeles has only lost one of their last 12 matches, they are struggling to find wins as of late. The team continues to drop important points at home.

1. Crucial Miss

The Vancouver Whitecaps nearly got the scoring started early as they almost found the back of the net in the 8′ minute. Giles Barnes’ cross found the head of teammate, Erik Hurtado, but his header hit the top of the post. The ball struck the inside of the top post as it somehow stayed out of goal and then ricocheted out of play.

2. Injuries

Just as the LA Galaxy thought they had overcome injuries with Robbie Rogers and Brian Rowe returning to the lineup, two of their key players went down in this one. First, Steven Gerrard was forced off of the pitch in the 31′ minute due to a knock. Then, Jelle Van Damme needed a substitute as he picked up a knock in the 44′ minute. Injury woes continue to haunt the team as Robbie Keane is still recovering from a knock as well. Gyasi Zardes, may have suffered an injury near the end of this match as well. He was subbed on for Gerrard but was forced to come off in the 87′ minute.

3. Near Chance at Glory

The LA Galaxy’s best chance of the match came in the 72′ minute when the ball fell to Alan Gordon in the box. After a creative bit of skill from Emmanuel Boateng, Sebastian Lletget’s ass found Gordon who fired a shot towards goal. His effort sailed just wide as it narrowly missed the post. This was possibly the club’s best chance at a goal after a mess of an offensive showing in this one.

The Whitecaps will next face the New York Red Bulls on September 3rd as they return to Vancouver. The Los Angeles Galaxy will stay home to take on the Columbus Crew on September 3rd as well.
