Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore are leading the way for Toronto FC as their stellar play has the club thinking about the MLS Cup this season.

Toronto FC are dishing out big money to forwards Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore but the tandem is finally clicking this season. The team is on a seven game unbeaten streak that includes six wins and one draw. Their great play has propelled them atop the Eastern Conference standings.

The striking combination of Giovinco and Altidore highlights the stellar play of the team. In the last seven games, Sebastian has recorded eight goals and six assists. As last seasons’ MVP, he is at the top of his game once again as he looks to win his second in a row.

Giovinco’s dominant play alone is usually enough to keep Toronto FC in matches but with Jozy Altidore firing on all cylinders, the team has been unstoppable as of late. The American international has recorded five goals and one assist. This is a far cry from his injury plagued start to the season as he has scored all five of his goals this year in the last seven games for TFC.

With both of these designated players scoring goals left and right, Toronto FC may be on the fast track to an MLS Cup this season. With the team playing at this level, they have a good shot at winning the Supports’ Shield and standing as a true contender in the Eastern Conference. They are only a few points off of FC Dallas for the Supporters’ Shield and with only eight matches left in the season, TFC has a good chance at taking it home.

It is not only Toronto’s offense that is playing great but also their defense. With the attacking power of Giovinco and Altidore upfront, it takes pressure off of the defense. Toronto have not allowed more than one goal in their last seven games with two clean sheets as well.

Before this recent stretch of games, many were questioning the play of Jozy, who had not produced much this season. The 26-year old has been in great form since finally recovering from his earlier injuries. If the forward combo can continue their incredible play, Toronto FC will be a legit threat for the MLS Cup, the Supporters’ Shield, and for Giovinco’s second MVP award.

Toronto is clearly one of the best teams in Major League Soccer in 2016, but there is no denying that they will only go as far as their designated players take them. Giovinco and Altidore are some of the most talented players in all of MLS and when they are clicking, there is almost no way to stop them. Sebastian Giovinco will always be at or near the top of the MLS’ Golden Boot race but with Altidore in great form as well, Toronto has enough firepower to compete with any team in the league.

The 29-year old Italian international kept the club afloat when Altidore was out with hamstring injuries. The side only won six games in their first 19 matches during the 2016 campaign. They have equaled that in their last seven games as Jozy has picked up his play. Altidore is finally showcasing his high level talent in MLS play this season.

With six of their final eight games coming against teams currently in the playoffs, Toronto will have a tough stretch to finish out the season. Luckily for them, six of those matches will also be at home. They will be relying on the support of their fans as well as their impressive striking tandem to lead them to a strong finish.

After making the postseason for the first time in the clubs’ history last year, they will be looking to head back with intentions of hoisting the MLS Cup. A Supporters’ Shield to top things off wouldn’t be bad either for the franchise. The club has never made it past the knockout round of the playoffs, so their first ever MLS Cup would be huge for the team. If this team ends the season by hoisting a trophy, it will be thanks in large part to the “Atomic Ant” and Jozy.

TFC have become contenders as eight of their 12 wins are over teams who were in the playoffs last season. After a disappointing end to last year, Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore have Toronto fans believing in MLS Cup glory. The unlikely pairing of the 5’4 center forward and the 6’1 striker is one of the best combinations in the game today.
