LA Galaxy vs Colorado Rapids: Three Key Moments
Defense reigned supreme in the match between the LA Galaxy and the Colorado Rapids as they battled to a 1-1 draw at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles.
In a thrilling contest that featured plenty of shots, both the Galaxy and the Rapids were only able to score one goal a piece. The game was an exciting 1-1 draw as both teams were gunning for the victory. This was a match-up between two of the top three teams in the Western Conference so far this season.
This was the third meeting between these two clubs this MLS season. The Rapids won the first match back in March and there was also a scoreless draw back in June. These two teams won’t meet for the rest of the regular season but they could potentially meet in the playoffs.
Colorado and Los Angles each had their opportunities in this one but they were each forced to settle with a point after full-time. The Rapids are now second in the West with 42 total points (11-3-9) and they are only three points behind FC Dallas for the lead. The Galaxy are in third place with 38 total points (9-3-11).

1. Missed Opportunities for the Galaxy
LA had plenty of shots in this one with 16 total and six of them being shots on goal. One of their best chances came in the 11′ minute when Steven Gerrard found Gyasi Zardes with only the goalkeeper to beat. Tim Howard came up with a sensational save to keep Zardes off of the score sheet. In the 26′ minute, a free kick found the head of Jelle Van Damne but the ball hit the post and the rebound bounced off of Daniel Steres out of play.
The chance for a match winner came in the 66th minute when Sebastian Lletget played a beautiful back heel pass to A.J. DeLaGarza but his shot went of the bar. Los Angeles should be disappointed with their missed opportunities in this one.
2. Goals in the Second Half
The first goal of the game came in the minute 51′ minute when Marlon Hairston found Shkelzen Gashi who one timed the shot into the top left corner. The superb effort from Gashi put the Rapids up 1-0 over the Galaxy. Los Angeles didn’t take long to find an equalizer as they scored in the 62′ minute. Steven Gerrard’s corner kick found the head of Daniel Steres who’s header was placed perfectly to the left of Tim Howard who had no shot at making the save.
3. Serious Injury to Rowe?
LA Galaxy goalkeeper, Brian Rowe, went down with a scary looking injury in the 85th minute. He suffered a serious head injury when Nigel de Jong and Kevin Doyle collided with him. Rowe received medical attention and Dan Kennedy came on for him. Hopefully Brian’s injury won’t keep him out for too long.
The LA Galaxy will next face off against NYCFC away from home as they travel across the country but they may be without Brain Rowe. Colorado will return home and take on Orlando City SC next week. Both teams will be looking for a win in their next match after getting only a point in this one but they each have tough tasks ahead of them.
