Sporting KC has reportedly received a $3 million transfer offer from Greek club, Olympiakos, in exchange for the services of star striker, Dom Dwyer.

One of the best forwards in MLS may be on his way out of the league as Sporting KC has received a $3 million transfer offer from Olympiakos for Dom Dwyer (Goal.com). In a shocking bid that came from out of nowhere, the Greek club has made an initial bid for the star striker. Although, Dwyer may not be keen on a move away from the U.S.

Olympiakos is one of the top clubs in Greece as they have won the Superleague title in each of the past six seasons. They have also won 18 of the last 20 titles in the Greek top flight. They are clear and away the best team in the European Country as they have won 43 titles in their fabled history.

Sporting KC may be intrigued by the offer from Olympiakos but Dom Dwyer may not be interested in an international transfer. He is currently married to Sydney Leroux and the couple are expecting their first child this summer. She also plays professionally for FC Kansas City in the NWSL.

Another reason why he may not want to move, is because Dwyer is working on becoming a United States’ citizen so that he could qualify for the National Team. He received his green card in 2012 but has not obtained full citizenship yet. A move away from the States may put his hopes of landing a U.S. citizenship in jeopardy. If he wants to play for the USMNT at some point, then his best bet would be to stay put at Sporting KC.

The 25-year old striker has scored 10 goals this season fro Sporting KC as he is their leading goal scorer. That is also good enough for fifth best in the league. Dom has also recorded two assists in 22 games this year.

Dwyer has scored 49 total goals for Kansas City since his debut in 2012. He has appeared in over 100 games for the club and helped them win the MLS Cup in 2013. He has been not only one of the team’s best players but one of the best forwards in the league over the past three seasons.

It was only a matter of time before Sporting KC received a multimillion dollar bid for Dwyer. It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out but it would seem unlikely for a move from Dom to happen at this point in his life. It is good to see some of Europe’s biggest clubs interested in the top tier MLS talent.
