TFC Talk: Cheyrou steps up, Perquis steps out
By Niko Moniz
Welcome to the first ever TFC talk! I will be posting a new edition every week where I will talk about all things Toronto FC and sometimes cover some other topics of interest (don’t worry I won’t write about Pokémon Go…no matter how cool it is).
To kick things off how about that TFC vs Chicago Fire game? I believe it’s still too early to say it, but I may have been wrong in saying Giovinco isn’t in a slump. He just had so many opportunities and couldn’t seem to bury any, good thing his passing is still top class as he assisted on the only goal scored.
Now a quick turnaround is happening as
Toronto takes on the Columbus Crew
on a Wednesday night in Columbus. With all of the injuries Greg Vanney has had to deal with he is still getting great defensive performances from his team and Toronto does have the second best away record in the eastern conference. Does Giovinco finally score a goal tonight? Lets pray that he does.
Big story of the week so far is that Damien Perquis and Toronto FC have agreed to part ways. I think this is a fantastic move for the club due to the fact that Perquis seems to have fallen out of Vanney’s line-up. He also had a massive contract (for a non designated player) that will now be off the books and give the club some flexibility if they want to bring in another player(s).
MVP of the week has to go to Benoit Cheyrou. Although Giovinco had a great game on Saturday, Cheyrou has just impressed me so much since stepping into the starting 11 with Bradley and Johnson out of action. Not only has Cheyrou played great he has also been able to orchestrate a cohesive midfield that consists of all younger players. Toronto’s midfield has a lot of young talent (Osorio, Delgado, Chapman, and Endoh) but without Michael Bradley or Will Johnson available to dictate the pace many were worried the midfield would be an unorganized mess. Lucky for Toronto, Benoit Cheyrou and all his glorious experience stepped up and now TFC fans can relax knowing our midfield is in great hands while their stars are out.
#ThankYouCheyrou
What does the rest of the week have in store for Toronto FC you ask? Well as mentioned before they will be taking on Columbus in a mid week match and then on Saturday they are headed to the sunshine state to take on the San Jose Earthquakes. Although both games are on the road these games are very much Toronto’s to lose as both teams are in the bottom of their respective conferences.

What’s got me excited other than soccer this week? Well Ballers Season 2 premiers on Sunday night on HBO which should be great. Also DC Rebirth comics continues this week and my favourite hero Nightwing will be getting his 1st Rebirth issue released Wednesday. I have always found side kicks have it much easier than the main hero. I don’t know if it’s the lack of pressure or the fact that you don’t have to sacrifice as much, but the role of side kick just seems way more appealing to me than being the main hero. If you like comics or want to hear my thoughts on Ballers just check out my twitter (link above) that’s where I post about other things as well as soccer.
Well that’s it for this week, lets hope TFC can pull off 2 wins as 6 points could put us near the top of the eastern conference.
COME ON YOU REDS!!!
