The Timbers are starting to find a rhythm and consistency in their defensive as they slowly start to inch up Western Conference Standings. After two shutouts in a row, Caleb Porter’s team is starting to hold their own, even through endless bouts of injury.
Meanwhile, the Impact are looking strong. They tied their last game against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium and have been appearing in great form as they look to climb the Eastern Conference Standings.
This game will be test for both teams. Can they capitalize on the momentum of their unbeaten streaks? Can the Timbers overcome injury to win points at home? Can the Montreal Impact come to Providence Park and extend their unbeaten streak to six games?
Montreal Impact vs Portland Timbers: What to Watch
Portland’s Midfield – Diego Chara will not appear in this game due to a suspension he earned because of the accumulation of yellow cards. Diego Valeri is still out with an ankle injury, so Darlington Nagbe is the only regular starting Portland midfielder that will be eligible for this lineup. Nagbe will have to hold down the midfield, create chances and contain the Impact’s Ignacio Piatti. He will likely be joined by Ben Zemanski or Ned Grabavoy, with Jack Jewsbury and Jack Barmby available as well. These men will have to find a way to shut down Ignacio Piatti, spread the Timbers’ offense and feed the counterattack.
