July 4th may be over but the fireworks won’t stop there as the New England Revolution will play against a confident New York City FC on Wednesday, July 6th, at Gillette Stadium at 7:30pm ET.

East Conference leaders New York City FC are traveling to Foxborough, Mass. to face off against New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. Currently relishing from their 2-0 derby win against rivals New York Red Bulls on Sunday, City fans will surely be hoping for something special from their attacking mid Jack Harrison, who scored the first and assisted the second, earning a MLS Team of the Week spot and Goal of the Week nomination for his match efforts.

As for the Revs, despite taking the lead with 2 goals from new signing Kei Kamara, they ultimately couldn’t collect the 3 points as they lost 3-2 to Montreal Impact on Saturday. New England are keen on putting on a good performance in front of their home fans, having now 2 losses in a row.

3 Important Stats:

  • The Revs’ Dodgy Defense: New England now sit atop MLS statistics as the team with the most fouls suffered in the league: 243 fouls.
  • Shootin’ Stars: NYCFC top the league in shots with 270. David Villa, alone, isn’t just the current top goalscorer with 12 but also leads the league in both shots (107) and shots on goal (46).
  • Midfield Maestros: Key midfielders to watch included Lee Nyugen, who is the Revs’ top scorer, leader in assists and according to Squawka.com, chances created as well. Andrea Pirlo, for NYCFC, has created the most chances and most completed passes.

New England Revolution have found themselves in a bit of a slump following their recent away loss but are still determined to pull out a good result against City FC having only lost one of their eight home games so far. Striker Kamara has scored 6 in 6 games and has already made links with playmakers Nyugen and Kelyn Rowe. The problems seem to lie in the defense but Manager Jay Heaps was quick to give credit to a tough Montreal side and speak about what is truly needed for the Revs to pull out a decent 90 minutes against NYCFC during his post-match press conference.

New York City FC won their last 3 games and are quickly improving, boasting the best away record in the Eastern Conference with 4 wins, 2 losses and a single tie. With Frank Lampard, Pirlo and Villa are all in form, looking much more comfortable on the ball along with some clever, attacking wing play by players like Harrison and Tommy McNamara, they look set to take home 3 points tonight. Manager Patrick Vieira took to the team’s website to talk about New York’s current form and their happiness overall.

"“When you’re winning games, it’s a happy camp…the mood is really good. The players are happy, the staff is happy, the club is happy but we are still a very long way from what we want to achieve.”"

The Revs are not going to be holding back against strong competition in New York City FC. The challenge might be enough incentive to push them for the win. You can expect to see a great matchup tonight at 7:30pm ET on MLS LIVE or your local regional channels.
