The race for the playoffs in the MLS Eastern Conference is just warming up but here are our predictions for the postseason

The first half of the 2016 Major League Soccer season is almost complete. Many surprising events have happened this campaign and more are on the way. Teams will look to qualify for the MLS playoffs. The question is which teams will qualify for this year’s chance at the coveted MLS Cup.

There have been some surprising stories this year. The Philadelphia Union have been racking up points and they have sole position of first place in the Eastern Conference. While, the Columbus Crew have fallen to the bottom of the table.

Here are MLS Multiplex’s prediction of which teams from the Eastern Conference will qualify for the MLS Playoffs.

Playoff Teams:

  • New York Red Bulls: The Red Bulls had one of the worst starts in MLS history. Ever since then they have been a force to be reckoned with. They are currently 2nd place in the Eastern Conference, but are continuing to push for first. By the end of the season, the Red Bulls will claim the first place in the East.
  • Philadelphia Union: The Union have been the most surprising team in the Eastern Conference this season. Jim Curtin has brought a team that almost finished last in 2015 to the top. He will definitely be in discussion for MLS Coach of the Year. Sapong and Pontius have provided an offensive boost the Union desperately needed. While, Andre Blake and Keegan Rosenberry have paved the way on defense. The Union will be in the playoffs for only the second time in club history.
  • Toronto F.C

: Toronto was impressive early in the season, but not recently. Sebastian Giovinco is currently out with an abductor injury. For the most part, Toronto has been decent and will continue to succeed when Michael Bradley comes back from international duty. Toronto is a dangerous team, and they will claim the 3rd spot in the MLS Playoffs.

    More from MLS Multiplex

  • Montreal Impact: Drogba has been a legend for the Canadian club. With the help of him and Laurent Ciman on defense, Montreal have been playing great recently. Watch out for the Impact, they could be the surprise team to win the MLS Cup this season.
  • Orlando City SC: This team have had their ups and downs early on in the season. They have seven draws in thirteen games. Despite the draws, they have shown they can compete with anyone. Cyle Larin has provided the offensive boost with some help from Kevin Molino. If the defensive struggle can get figured out, Orlando will make the playoffs.
  • New England Revolution: The Revolution have been disappointing early in the season. The acquisition of Kei Kamara will prove to be vital. Kamara will lead the Revolution to the playoffs.
