The 2015 U.S. Open Cup final may be closed to just Sporting Kansas City and the Philadelphia Union but the 2016 U.S. Open Cup is still open to everyone. On Monday U.S. Soccer announced the opening rounds for the 2016 U.S. Open Cup.

More from U.S. Soccer

The competition begins on October the 17th with the Open Division starting play. The Open Division which, covers all U.S. Soccer clubs that do not play in MLS, NASL, and USL, is mostly composed of amateur or semi-professional players. The 56 teams that are playing in the first round earned a spot in the tournament after qualifying through various local and regional tournaments.

Among those who will be playing in the first round are Chula Vista FC, who beat USL side Arizona United SC in last year’s competition, and Harpo’s FC, who came within a whisker of beating USL’s Colorado Switchbacks, are back. Both clubs along with 54 other sides will compete for the chance to win the U.S. Open Cup but also for a $15,000 prize that is given to the team outside of the top three divisions who lasts the longest.

The second round will be played between November 14-22. You can see how those match-ups will work on U.S. Soccer’s homepage.
