Wayne Rooney Suspected to be David Beckham’s Target for his Miami Team

From teammates to business partners.

After MLS Commissioner Don Garber announced earlier in the week that he is confident with the development that has been made in the choosing of a stadium location for the up-incoming Miami franchise, David Beckham, one of the co-owners for this Miami project, made yet another huge splash in the media that should excite not only Miami fans, but soccer fans around the league.

Beckham is currently in the process of scheming up a plan to sign current Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney away from the Red Devils.

This signing would continue the trend that we saw earlier this season when NYC FC and Orlando City FC joined the league; sign a big name designated player to your squad and then build around them with other quality players.

While the thought of Rooney coming to play in the MLS may seem farfetched to fans right now, three years down the line, when the Miami franchise will be looking to expand into the league, would be the perfect time to sign him.

Rooney, who is currently 28 years of age, expressed to the media in July that he would be intrigued by the opportunity of playing in the MLS at some point during his career, stating that he’s enjoyed his visits to the country and has heard from friends that the talent level in the league is improving at an exponential rate.

A move to a new franchise where he can be the star in a league that is improving each year is something that would interest any great player. Not to mention that Rooney has the capability to doing so, since in 2018, the year that his contract ends with Manchester United, is the same year that Beckham’s Miami team plans on joining the MLS league.

While the prospect of signing a player as illustrious as Rooney would be exciting for the MLS, the idea of this happening is still years down the line. So when Garber was questioned about Rooney joining the league within the next three years, Garber had to deflect the notion that a move like that was even being thought of.

"“He’s under contract at Man United. I’m personally very friendly with the Glazers,” Garber said.“To even be talking about it while he’s under contract I guess isn’t the way we operate. We don’t do that. We wouldn’t do it.”"

Rooney, who has scored 300 goals over the course of his career between his club and his country, would be yet another huge signing for a league that is becoming know for its capabilities of signing quality talent who still have something left to give.

This move would be great for both the MLS and Rooney, as it would continue to improve the viewership and the talent within the league, while still allowing Rooney to have the chance to be the focal-point of an organization and contribute his skills towards winning yet another championship.
