It’s unlikely that any players picked from outside the top ten or so picks make much of an impact at their clubs in their first season, but these guys are proving that theory wrong. Their form over the course of the first few months of their professional careers has all the teams who passed them over thinking twice.

16th overall: Cristian Roldan, Midfielder, Seattle Sounders

His initials are CR and he wears number seven…Roldan slipped in the draft and fell into the Sounders lap at 16th overall. He found his way into the line-up through injuries or team-mates being called to international duty and has been turning heads ever since. The midfielder has appeared in each of the Sounders’ last ten games.

17th overall: Miguel Aguilar, Striker, D.C. United

Aguliar has been having a strong campaign. DCU have been relying on him to provide a spark in late-game situations and he appeared in every game in June and July. If he continues playing as he has, it’s only a matter of time before the goals start coming.

36th overall: Rob Lovejoy, Midfielder/Forward, Houston Dynamo

The former North Carolina Tar Heel put himself on everyone’s radar when he scored a cracker in April against the Montreal Impact. Lovejoy was used in almost every match since his goal, but strained his hamstring in his second career start back in June. He is still recovering.

45th overall: Cameron Porter, Striker, Montreal Impact

It’s rare that a third round pick is signed by the team that drafted him, let alone makes it into any games. Cameron Porter has done that and more. He has made only four appearances, but Porter is already credited with scoring the biggest goal in his club’s history. His incredible play has everyone thinking he is the future of the Impact, assuming he fully recovers from his ACL tear.
