Is Yura Movsisyan Coming Back To Real Salt Lake?
By Sean Maslin
Could one of the greatest products of Major League Soccer be coming back to the league? It certainly looks that way as Yura Movsisyan, the Armenian international, is reportedly looking to return to MLS and more importantly Real Salt Lake.
There are a couple of reasons that RSL supporters should be optimistic. First, in a recent interview with the Salt lake Tribune’s Chris Kamrani Movsisyan’s agent Patrick McCabe said “It would be a number of options I think he would have, but he’s definitely open-minded at this point. If that’s Salt Lake, OK, or another MLS team, he would certainly be open-minded to pursuing.”
Second, there is also this picture that Movsisyan put on his Facebook profile.

If Movisysan were to want to come back to MLS it would be with RSL. The team still owns his rights since they did not receive a transfer fee when he first moved abroad. They could conceivably trade his rights to another team but given their recent problems at finding the back of the net (the team has just 13 goals in 2015) they might want to keep him.
The one hang up in this potential move would be that he still has two years left on his contract FC Spartak Moscow. To bring him back stateside, RSL would need to negotiate a transfer value with Moscow. Given that Moscow reportedly paid a high sum to secure Movsisyan’s services (around $7.5 million) that might be a tall ask.
Movisysan, a Generation Adidas product, played for RSL between 2007 and 2009 and scored 15 goals in 53 appearances. In 2010 he moved to Randers in Denmark and is currently playing FC Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League. During the 2014-2015 campaign for Moscow Movisysan scored 16 goals in 23 appearances. Moscow only narrowly finished out of the top five in the RPL, losing to Krasnodor on head-to-head advantage.
In addition to his time with Spartak and Randers, he also featured for FC Krasnodor and was actually originally drafted by the Kansas City Wizards.
He is also a full international for Armenia having made 27 appearances for the full senior national team. He is currently listed on Armenia’s 25-man roster that is slated to take on Portugal on Saturday in a qualifier for the 2016 European Championships. The Armenian FA announced this week that he had been released from training to go to Armenia currently sits in last place in Group I and will have a difficult road to qualify for France, having to play the likes of Albania, Denmark, Portugal, and Serbia.
If this deal does come true it is a tremendous addition for RSL. With Joao Plata still trying to gain his form and with Alvaro Saborio set to miss significant time due to international services, the club could use some additional depth at the striker position.
