When Marco Di Vaio announced he would be retiring at the end of the season, the Impact were left short-handed in the striker department. Rumours were swirling of Montreal signing a big name striker from Europe and there were whispers of Alberto Gilardino being very close to becoming the newest member of the IMFC.

This did not materialize, so the Impact looked inside MLS to find a solution. Oduro, known for his flashy hair, love of pizza and nickname (Freaky Fast) looked to be a good fit. Plus, Klopas coached him during the 2011 and 2012 seasons he spent with the Fire.

I have been back and forth on how I think the Ghanaian has been performing. He can play as both a striker and an outside midfielder, but I’m not sure which one suits him best.

With his insane speed, if he just kicks the ball into space and chases it, he should get to it four out of five times. But then again, once you get the ball, you have to do something with it and I don’t think any Impact supporters have been impressed with Oduro’s finishing.

Consider what they gave up to get him however, I think Montreal should be satisfied.

Based on the fact that Toronto (and their owners, MLSE) are believed to have shelled out a more than $30 million to bring in four players over the past two years and they will be paying their three DP’s astronomical salaries, I don’t think they made the trade because they needed the cash.
