Supporters’ groups are the heart of the ultimate fan experience at a soccer game. Every country has its own bastion of supporters. Every city has its own unique soccer culture. It’s passionate, it’s rich, and it simply blows your mind.

Here at the MLS Multiplex, we rank the best teams in terms of loyal fan support ahead of MLS Cup 2014 and give you examples of why they are where they are. This is the MLS Power Rankings for the top 10 supporter bases, and it starts…now.
Now this was a no-brainer. They are like Manchester United in terms of their loyalty and disloyalty, the Seattle Sounders faithful. Comprised of the main group, the Emerald City Supporters; the Eastside Supporters; Gorilla FC and the North End Faithful, Seattle’s tifo is right up there with the best of them. Here’s some examples of their passion on display.
And of course, there’s the…lighter side of things. Seattle invents everything. Because Seattle. Yeah. O Seattle.
Of course, the Timbers Army of the Portland Timbers is not too shabby themselves. With “Timber Joey” Webber sawing pieces of log amidst a bastion of screaming capos and waving flags, you can never be bored watching the TA put up a party in Portland. Don’t believe me? Check out these vids.

The Blue Cauldron of Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. houses a collective of supporters’ groups willing Sporting Kansas City to another victory. You have the Cauldron, Cauldron CoMo, King City Yardbirds, La Barra KC, the Mass Street Mob, Southern Voodoo, the BSE, the South Stand SC, the Wedge, and of course, As Astra SKC.
All right, that’s enough. Let’s take a look at the team in action. supporting their team in action. Roll the tape!
Philadelphia’s Sons of Ben are a devoted bunch of fans that have gone through good times and tough times. Philadelphia is a tough sports town full of tough crowd, and no group of supporters on the East Coast can be more blue-collar than the SoB.
Plus, their goal horn is a favorite song of mine. Ever heard of Scooter?
5. Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire’s supporters groups are strong in number and in size. Led by Section 8, Chicago Fire’s groups also consist of the Arsonists, Blitzer Mob, East Bank Firm, Fire For Effect, Fire Ultras, Husaria, Partisans, Red Scare, Sektor Latino, The Western Front, Ultras Red Side and the Whiskey Brothers Aught Five.

The Los Angeles Galaxy may not have the best support in terms of passion, but they pack a punch in their own right. Comprising of the LA Riot Squad, the Angel City Brigade and the Galaxians, the Galaxy’s faithful are always ready to stand with one of the most accomplished teams in the competition in the Galaxy. From an author’s perspective, I used to stand with the men of the Riot Squad before I found myself watching Galaxy home games from the press box. Good times, good times. So here’s LA’s support, coming in at No. 6.
Columbus’s supporters comprise of the Hudson Street Hooligans, La Turbina Amarilla, the Crew Supporters Union and the Buckeye Brigade. Yes, there is a massive soccer culture in Columbus, and the Crew’s support are looking forward to bigger and better things next season. Here they go, live and direct.
Oh, and did I mention Mr. Frank Daniel Hejduk is their official hype MC? Take it away, Frankie!
Real Salt Lake also have their share of strong support, the chant “Believe RSL” being the unifying anthem among them. Real Salt Lake’s supporters comprise of La Barra Real, The Loyalists, Rogue Cavaliers Brigade, Section 26, and The Royal Pride.
9. D.C. United
You can’t forget about D.C. United’s supporters. Through thick and through thin, they are always there to give D.C. the fire they need to pull through in any contest in any circumstance. D.C.’s supporters’ groups are the Screaming Eagles, La Barra Brava, La Norte and District Ultras.
It was tough to make a choice as to which Canadian team deserved to be on this list. In the end, the MLS Multiplex decided to put Vancouver here because Cascadia. The Vancouver Whitecaps’ supporters groups comprise of the Curva Collective, the Rain City Brigade, and the Southsiders.
