Chivas USA Dispersal Mock Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

With one final act, Chivas USA will officially be relegated to a footnote to the contemporary MLS. Here’s our attempt to make sense of the Chivas USA dispersal draft, set to take place on Wednesday.

Here are the foolish assumptions we are laboring under:

1. Teams will be drafting out of need. For example, FC Dallas already boasting two high-caliber goalkeepers don’t snag Dan Kennedy as trade bait.

2. Players are under their most recent salary restraints. In other words. Caleb Calvert retains his homegrown rights, Leandro Barrera is still on loan, and Carlos Bocanegra is still retired.

3. Let’s assume that the on-loan players return to their parent clubs.

4. No Discovery Rights claims or other, similar shenanigans

Here are the ineligible players: Erick “Cubo” Torres, Eric Avila, Eriq Zavaletta and Carlos Bocanegra.

370. Rivero played underneath Oscar Pareja when the two were in Colorado. Before suffering an ACL tear in a win over RSL, Rivero was a solid, middle of the midfield attacking option whose cost ($50,000) could provide depth at Dallas should Mauro Diaz suffer another lengthy injury. . Midfielder. FC Dallas. Martin Rivero. 1. player

Yes, Delgado has has two consecutive seasons derailed with season ending injuries. It’s more likely bad luck than anything systematically wrong with the player or his approach. Tough and versatile, Delgado doesn’t count against the cap courtesy of his Homegrown status.. Midfielder. D.C. United. Marky Delgado. 4. player. 369

Midfielder. New England Revolution. Nigel Reo-Coker. 5. player. 372. His stuck plummeted following an off-the-field injury in Vancouver. He looked great for Chivas and would be even better on the Revs who have the cap space to sign the Englishman

Midfielder. Montreal Impact. Marvin Chavez. 6. player. 371. A winger who can play either side coming off a season in which played in the World Cup.

Midfielder. Colorado Rapids. Oswaldo Minda. 8. player. 368. There’s a new sheriff in Colorado and  while it’s a stretch, hear me out: Minda is a yellow card magnet who costs a DP slot but he’s also a hard-nosed enforcer who earned a call up to Ecuador’s World Cup squad.

376. The prize of the Chivas farm system, Calvert has been a prodigious scorer though he’s not made a first team start all season. Signed to a homegrown contract, he’ll be a piece of the rebuilding program.  . Forward. San Jose Earthquakes. Caleb Calvert. 9. player

322. A week ago, RSL might have gone with Matthew Dunn, but last week’s 5-0 in which the team mustered a whole four shots segued to the uncomfortable truth in Sandy, Utah that the team’s offense has been a no-show at the tail end of the season. Versatile and quick , Tyrpak could be a regular in 2015.. Forward. Real Salt Lake. Kris Tyrpak. 10. player

Portland Timbers. Matthew Dunn. 12. player. 375. The 20 year-old from Music City Dunn has been around the world growing up in the Bundesliga and later in Belgrade before coming back to Chivas via the waiver draft. Dunn is able to use both feet, has great ball control and reads the game well. He’s the sort of player who would thrive under the cerebral Caleb Porter.. Midfielder

14. player. 377. A solid defender, Hurtado’s veteran leadership could anchor a young backline.. Defender. Toronto FC. John Kennedy-Hurtado

16. player. 227. Burling has been hobbled over the last two season requiring leg and neck surgeries. He’s a solid defender who will bring depth to the Galaxy’s centerback pool.. Defender. LA Galaxy. Bobby Burling

Forward. Philadelphia Union. Ryan Finley. 17. player. 374. Finley is soccer’s AAAA player. He’s been a consistent scorer in college and in the Reserves league. While he hasn’t played poorly, he hasn’t been able to replicate that success in MLS.

New York Red Bulls. Donny Toia. 18. player. 373. Defense has been an afterthought in Harrison so Toia seems to fit the bill. He’s good at marking and tracking opponents but Wilmer Cabrera benched him for a lack of physicality.. Defender
